Piros Bakator is one of the oldest Hungarian grape varieties, and before the Phylloxera blight it was a variety of great importance in the whole Carpathian Basin, including Somló. Its popularity is well reflected by the numerous references in Hungarian literature (Kazinczy, Kölcsey, Ady, Vörösmarty). The vines are trained as bush vines (or Gobelet) and are protected by herbal preparations. This wine is the result of several types of vinification techniques (fermentation on the skins; maceration on the skins; whole bunch fermentation on the skins). No additives were used during vinification, except for 10 mg/l sulphuric acid which was added immediately before bottling. Gravity flow bottling without filtration or fining.
